В Казахстане начался сезон клещевого энцефалита 12.04.2017

In Kazakhstan, three regions are endemic for tick-borne encephalitis - Almaty, East Kazakhstan oblasts, the city of Almaty and its environs. In recent years, isolated cases of tick-borne encephalitis began to be recorded in the Akmola region.

According to the information of the chief sanitary doctor of Kazakhstan, Zhandarbek Bekshin, in 2016, 11,356 people applied for tick bites to medical organizations, of which 10,443 (92%) received prophylactic immunoglobulin treatment.

The causative agent of tick-borne encephalitis is transmitted to humans:

- when sucking a virus infected ixodid tick along with anesthetizing saliva;

- when eating raw milk of goats, sheep, cows, in which during the period of a mass attack of ticks the virus may be in milk;

- when crushing a tick or combing a bite.

Tick-borne encephalitis can be prevented with the help of nonspecific (vaccination) and specific prophylaxis (use of protective agents).

Persons with tick bites must contact the nearest medical institution during the first day and conduct emergency prophylaxis.
